Bahgat Ahmed
AI Lead
Most AI projects don't fail because of the model. They fail because of everything around it — the data, the evaluation, the iteration, the people in the loop. That's where I work.
I rebuild stuck AI products and ship them to production — not demos, not prototypes, systems that work. 7 years across enterprise and consumer-facing AI. I run 1B Lab on small open-weight language models, and mentor engineers and career shifters into senior AI roles through 6 AM LLM Club.
From Aerospace to AI
I started in Aerospace Engineering. I learned to think in systems and care about what happens when things fail. But I found myself drawn to a different problem: how machines actually understand language.
What pulled me in wasn't the hype. It was the puzzle itself. I switched in from aerospace. No bootcamp. No shortcut. I learned AI the hard way: production work, trial and error, mentors who took the time, and the books most engineers skip.
After 7 years of building production systems, plus Harvard Business School's Strategic Financial Analysis program, I've seen what most tutorials don't teach: how to ship something that works at scale, handles edge cases, and delivers real value. On the engineering side, I rebuild stuck AI products and ship them to production, run 1B Lab (my production-first research on small open-weight language models), and mentor engineers and career shifters into senior AI roles through 6 AM LLM Club. On the business side, I've worked with startups and SMEs and seen what separates AI projects that ship from ones that die in PoC.
The hardest part of AI was never the model. It's everything around it: the data, the evaluation, the iteration, and the people in the loop. That's where most projects die, and that's where I focus.
The SHIP Framework
The same four habits separate the AI projects that reach production from the ones that die in PoC. I gave them a name so they are easy to remember.
Solve the real pain, not the one you assumed.
The AI number has to move a business number.
Data first, speed over planning.
No middleman between you and the pain.
Industries I've Worked In
I've built production AI systems across different sectors, including consulting for SMEs and advising technical leaders in larger organizations.
Types of Systems I've Built
Conversational AI
WhatsApp chatbots, customer service automation, order management
Business Intelligence
Natural language to SQL, KPI generation, automated reporting
Sales & Lead Systems
AI sales agents, lead qualification, CRM integration
Education & Tutoring
AI tutors with guided hints, step-by-step learning support
Language & Translation
Terminology extraction, translation QA, linguistic tools
Analytics & Insights
Topic modeling, text analysis, data-driven decision support
Through Mentorship & Consulting
"I covered 70-80% of the information I needed for interviews. I went from Solution Architect to Principal AI Engineer."
"Courses weren't working for me. This was a huge shift—now I'm an AI Engineer training juniors on my team."
"The intensive training helped me become comfortable working with LLMs, building pipelines, and applying them to real-world projects."
My Approach
Right Thing, Right Time
Don't over-engineer your prototype. Don't under-engineer your production system. I teach you what matters at each stage, so you build what you need, when you need it.
Clarity Over Complexity
I explain things simply because I had to learn them the hard way. No jargon for the sake of jargon.
Honest Partnership
Whether consulting or mentoring, I tell you what I actually think, not what sounds impressive. Your success matters more than sounding smart.
